Sunday Reset: Somehow, We Get It Done 🤎

This week felt like one long reminder that life doesn’t slow down just because your plate is full. From the moment my alarm went off in the morning, my mind was already going through everything that needed to happen that day. Getting myself together, making sure my little one was up and ready for school, checking backpacks, figuring out breakfast, looking at the clock every few minutes, and trying to remember whatever it was I told myself the night before that I absolutely could not forget. Before the sun was fully up, the day had already started, and once we walked out that door, it was go time.
After getting my little one where he needed to be, it was time for me to switch hats and head into my own day. Work still needed me, classes still needed me, assignments still had deadlines, and somewhere in the back of my mind I was already thinking about what I needed to study when I got home. This was one of those weeks where I felt like I was constantly moving from one responsibility to another. Mom mode, work mode, student mode, and then right back to mom mode again. Some days I felt completely on top of it, and other days I was just doing the next thing in front of me and trusting that somehow it would all get done.
By the time we made it back home in the evenings, it felt like I had already lived an entire day, but home has its own little way of saying, “Welcome back, we’ve been waiting for you.” The backpack comes through the door, shoes come off, school papers appear, and then come all the stories about what happened during the day. There’s dinner to think about, dishes waiting, laundry that somehow never seems to end, and all those little things around the house that nobody really notices until they aren’t done. In the middle of all of it, I’m still trying to be present enough to listen to my little one, ask about his day, laugh with him, and make home feel like the place where we can both finally exhale.
Once things started getting quieter, it was my turn to be the student again. The laptop came out, the books opened, notes spread across the table, and I tried to convince a tired brain that we still had a little more work left in us. Some nights studying went exactly how I wanted it to. Other nights I caught myself reading the same thing over and over because my mind had clearly clocked out before I did. Those were the moments when I had to remind myself that everything doesn’t have to be completed tonight. Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is close the book, go to sleep, and try again tomorrow.
Then the alarm went off the next morning and we did it all over again. That was pretty much the rhythm of this week. Wake up, get ready, school, work, class, home, dinner, studying, preparing for tomorrow, sleep, repeat. And somewhere between all of those responsibilities, I realized something. We spend so much time thinking about what still needs to be done that we rarely stop and give ourselves credit for everything we’re already doing.
Because when I really look back at my week, there were so many small wins hidden inside those ordinary days. Getting up when I was tired was a win. Making sure my little one had what he needed and watching him get through his first full week back at school was a win. Showing up for work was a win. Continuing my classes and working toward the future I want for myself and my family was a win. Opening my books after a long day when my bed sounded much better was a win. Even those evenings when dinner was simple, the laundry stayed in the basket a little longer, or something on my list had to wait until tomorrow were still successful days because we made it through them.
Now Sunday is here, and I can finally slow things down a little. This is the part of the week where I like to open the curtains, let some light into the house, put on something soft in the background, make myself a cup of tea, and start putting things back together. I’ll straighten up, tackle some laundry, look over what I have coming up for class, get things ready for my little one, cook something good, and prepare our home for another busy week. But somewhere in the middle of preparing for everyone and everything else, I’m making sure I leave a little room for myself too.
And if your week felt anything like mine, I hope you do the same today. Your life may look completely different from mine. Maybe you aren’t balancing work, motherhood, and school. Maybe you’re working two jobs, building a business, raising babies, taking care of family, trying to get your finances together, starting over, healing, or simply doing everything you can to make it through a difficult season. Whatever your days look like, don’t underestimate the strength it takes to keep showing up when you have a lot on your shoulders.
Sometimes progress doesn’t look exciting. Sometimes it looks like getting out of bed when you wanted to stay there, making breakfast, getting everybody where they need to go, clocking into work, completing one assignment, making dinner, washing a few dishes, taking a shower, saying a prayer, and going to bed so you can wake up and try again. Those things might seem small when you’re doing them every day, but little by little, those ordinary days are building something.
So this Sunday, instead of thinking about everything I didn’t accomplish this week, I’m choosing to appreciate everything I did. We made it through the mornings. We made it through the long days. My little one is good. Mama is still standing. The work got done, the books got opened, lessons were learned, and we made it through another week of working toward the life we’re trying to create.
Today, I’m going to pour my tea, turn on some music, reset my home, rest my mind, prepare what I can, and leave the rest for tomorrow. Because Monday morning will come, that alarm will go off again, and life will start moving all over again. I may not know exactly how I’m going to get everything done next week, but if this week taught me anything, it’s that I don’t have to have it all figured out at once. I just have to take it one day at a time.
And somehow, like we always do, we’ll get it done.
Happy Sunday Reset. ☕️✨
With love,Leah 🤎
